Am I a part of the dumbest generation??

Sitting in my Web Tools 2.0 class, my professor lectures on articles he has just passed out and discusses our duties for today's class time. All of the articles have to do with "technology" and its pros or, much more often, its cons on today's youth generation. I look around at the other students in the classroom and begin to fully understand the severity of this phenomenon. At least 60% of the students are multi-tasking by listening to the professor AND searching the web or looking at their facebooks. I have even fell trap to the tempting monster, THE COMPUTER. I check my email and listen to him.

The question is...do I feel that I am part of the dumbest generation? And the answer is yes and no. The Internet has definitely improved my life in many ways. I have used the Internet's resources numerous times when researching for a paper and/or presentations. Email is an excellent way to keep in contact with friends and family without the hassle of catching someone at home. I have also recently discovered that is an excellent way to read thoughts of other people willing to share (hmm...maybe something like this...???).

But I will admit that the wonderful world called the Internet has managed to distract me on more than one ocassion. I often find myself looking at Facebook profiles and pictures instead of researching Tango in Argentina. What will start as a productive use of the Internet will turn into three hours wasted checking my email and posts.

So yes, I may be a part of the so called "Dumbest Generation", but I also have the ability to be a part of the generation that proves everyone wrong. I want to be a part of the generation that brings back the positive aspects of the Internet.
