A teacher? or more?

I think the relationship between a teacher and a student is very important, especially in a small liberal arts school like Carroll University. We pride ourselves on the one-on-one relationship a student receives here. The student is not only known by his or her face, but by a name as well. I do think think that there is a fine boundary between a professional friendship in the classroom and more which makes it innapropriate.
Facebook can cause many problems and often be the "fine line" which gets crossed in these kinds of situations. A professor who has a Facebook needs to be very careful when posting on students' walls or even commenting on students' pictures. One slip can have a professor in a huge mess.
I have a couple teachers who have Facebook, and I do not find anything wrong with it. It is a very helpful way for me to keep in contact with my teacher when I have a question or concern.
When it comes to the article, I do feel bad for the professor who lost his or her job due to "unsatisfactory performance". I do agree that a main problem was when the professor acted out on the student. That tore the friendship apart and showed the student a non-professional side.

Hopefully, Facebook will soon become less of a "gray zone" where professors can get into trouble and turn into another way for students to contact professors when help is needed.
